Best Essential Oil DiffuserI have been looking for the best essential oil diffuser that is somewhat reasonably priced for a long time. There are many essential oil choices on the market today and many of them are sufficient for my basic needs, but there is one that stands above the rest.

And the winner is….the Plant Therapy AromaFuse Diffuser.

What I Love About It

The AromaFuse Diffuser is an ultrasonic diffuser with the dimensions of 6.8″ x 6.8″ x 4.3″. It has an interesting design that does not look like every other essential oil diffuser out there. It comes in three colors; pearl white, rose gold or wood-grain, to allow you to choose the best option to fit your d├ęcor.

I also like that all the plastic pieces are BPA-free and that there is a coating that protects against erosion by essential oils, as this is an issue I have dealt with in the past with other diffusers.

Diffusing Timer Settings

The 5 diffusing timer settings feature is what sold me on this diffuser. I have been looking for an essential oil diffuser for a long time that has the intermittent 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off mist capability. This feature alone makes this diffuser worth the money for me and my family.

This is perfect for overnight diffusing, especially when someone is sick. The reason for this is that I want the essential oil full therapeutic benefits to be obtained and I do not want to cause any unnecessary stress on the user’s weakened immune system.

Studies have shown that the most beneficial time span for diffusing essential oils is around 30 minutes. Enough time for the body to absorb the essential oils through breathing the air to obtain therapeutic benefits. And not enough time for habituation to occur (basically your body “gets used to” the essential oil and does not gain additional benefit from additional exposure and the essential oil can become an added stress on the body).

To learn more about diffusing essential oils check out my post How to Use Essential Oils.

There are a number of essential oil diffusers available that have intermittent diffusing abilities, but most are for only seconds at a time. Which is great to control the strength of essential oil in a space or prolonging the diffusing time. But does not help with avoiding habituation.

Besides this diffuser, the most I have found was 10-15 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Which is good but still not what I am looking for and costs more than the Plant Therapy AromaFuse Diffuser.

Some essential oil diffusers on the market have the capability to set a mist timer for 30 minutes and then the unit will shut off. This works, but to resume diffusing you would need to turn the unit back on manually. This might be doable during the day to reap the benefits of diffusing the essential oils but when using overnight it would not be feasible for my needs.

Here are all the diffusing timer settings on the AromaFuse:

  • Continuous diffusing until the unit runs out of water.
  • Diffuse for 2 hours and then the unit will turn off.
  • Intermittent diffusing 15 seconds on and 30 seconds off until the unit runs out of water.
  • Intermittent diffusing 15 minutes on and 30 minutes off until the unit runs out of water.
  • Intermittent diffusing 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off until the unit runs out of water.

Room Coverage Area

I have some larger rooms in my home and many diffusers are just too tiny. This diffuser is able to diffuse adequately in around 538 square feet.

Water Reservoir Size

This diffuser seems to be a bit larger than most with the capacity to hold 380 mL of water. This helps it to have a long diffusing ability, especially depending on the timer setting. It really is able to diffuse up to 10 hours or more! I have been able to diffuse continuously between 15-16 hours and on the intermittent 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off setting for 20 hours.

Since this is a larger size water reservoir you can use more essential oil drops compared to smaller diffusers, around 6-10 drops. I tend to use 6 drops when diffusing in a smaller room, especially for the kids.

Plant Therapy offers a one year limited warranty that starts the day the diffuser is purchased. What can I say, I love warranties and when companies stand behind their products.

This diffuser comes with a LED light that gives off a white light from the top of the diffuser when it is turned on (by hitting the “mist” button). The light can be dimmed by pressing the light button and shut completely off when the light button is hit a second time. If you hit the light button again it will turn the light back on.

The light feature only works while the diffuser is set in a diffusing mode. If using any of the intermittent diffusing settings the light will remain on, even when the unit pauses diffusing.

The light feature is the least important to me. Sure it is nice to have, but I would be fine without it.

Noisier Than Other Diffusers When in Use

This diffuser is a little louder than ones I have used in the past. It does not bother me as I find it to be relaxing white noise in the background. Some reviewers have described as sounding like as bubbling stream with a hum.

When using the diffuser while home alone, without little kid feet patters and squeals, I notice when it shuts off because the house is almost too quiet. And I also notice when it turns back on during intermittent settings when I am in the room where I am diffusing.

I do not mind the sound of this while sleeping, however we use sound machines or fans in our bedrooms while we sleep for white noise. I think that the diffusing sound being turned off and on during the intermittent diffusing modes would be noticeable without our normal background noise, especially for some of my light sleepers.

I will start by saying that I think the price is extremely fair for this type of essential oil diffuser for the size and all the functions. But, it is not the cheapest essential oil diffuser on the market.

At the time this post was written the wood-grain and rose gold AromaFuse Diffusers were $54.95 and the pearl white was $49.95. Please check this link for updates on pricing. The good thing is Plant Therapy offers quick and FREE shipping on all their products, so you only have to pay for the diffuser.

I will say that I feel more comfortable purchasing a diffuser from a brand I trust and that understands how essential oils can interact with plastic material. I get a little nervous purchasing a diffuser from Company X online who just imported a bunch of cheaply made diffusers to sell for a quick profit.

Final Thoughts on the Best Essential Oil Diffuser

I absolutely love all the diffuser timer settings on the Plant Therapy AromaFuse Diffuser. As mentioned above, this alone sold me on this diffuser and has not disappointed.

As a bonus, I feel like I get the AromaFuse’s ability to diffuse in larger spaces and for long amounts of time. I did not expect to get all of this in one diffuser. The warranty and light feature are also nice to have.

This AromaFuse Diffuser meets every need and want that I could possibly think of and I could not be more pleased with this purchase and highly recommend.

I have spent countless hours at multiple points over the years trying to find an essential oil diffuser that can offer the ability to diffuse 30 minutes on and 30 minutes off, without needing to intervene manually for this to occur. I will be crushed if Plant Therapy ever decides to discontinue the AromaFuse diffuser.

Other Diffuser Options

Another diffuser line that is recommended by certified Aromatherapists for the ability to diffuse with a longer time intermittently (however is just 10 minutes on and 20 minutes off) is made by Stadler Form. They are the:

I like the look of these diffusers and the multiple color options. If the Plant Therapy AromaFuse Diffuser is not for you, maybe one of these will be.
